President Donald Trump joined First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday as she delivered a speech before he signed a major Executive Order aimed at modernizing America’s foster care system. The initiative, designed to expand opportunities and provide stronger support for roughly 400,000 children in the U.S. foster system, also ties into Melania’s “Fostering the Future” program—a branch of her “Be Best” campaign offering scholarships to current and former foster youth.

During the East Room event, Melania urged leaders in government and the private sector to “rise above the ease of inaction,” emphasizing that today’s small spark could ignite a lasting nationwide movement. President Trump praised the initiative, calling it “empathetic and strategic” and highlighting the importance of caring for vulnerable children, noting its significance in the Bible.

While Melania’s speech received a warm ovation, social media buzzed over the president’s behavior. Observers noted Trump appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open, prompting playful comparisons to “sleepy Joe.” But what caught even more attention was the way he clapped—some viewers joking about “one-armed clapping” or questioning if something unusual was happening, while others defended it as perfectly normal.

After the applause, Trump embraced his wife with a kiss, calling her “magnificent” and “very caring,” and added, “They love her. Every time I get up and make a speech, they say ‘we want our First Lady.’ I say, ‘what the hell, am I not good enough?’”
