That was certainly the case on Saturday, June 14, during a military parade marking both the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and Trump’s 79th birthday. Onlookers couldn’t help but analyze the couple’s interactions.

According to lip reading expert Nicola Hickling, a seemingly tense moment between the two was actually more playful than serious. As they watched the marching troops, Melania reportedly complimented them, saying, “They’re good.” In response, Trump jokingly claimed, “I pushed my finger on one of them.”

Melania didn’t let the comment slide. Hickling reports that she replied mockingly, “You didn’t do that.” After being playfully called out, Trump backed off the joke and admitted, “You’re right, I never pushed my finger on them.”

“She shut him down fast,” Hickling concluded of the exchange.

Despite the public speculation about their marriage—especially since Trump’s return to the White House—this interaction suggested a lighter moment between the couple. Observers even noted affectionate touches, such as Melania placing her hand on his knee, as they enjoyed the parade together.

Still, rumors surrounding their relationship continue to swirl. Since her husband’s first presidential term in 2016, Melania has kept a notably low profile. Her absence from the campaign trail, as well as from several key public appearances, has only fueled speculation.

Melania, 55, skipped Trump’s court hearings and has made only rare visits to the White House—fewer than 14 days since he returned to office, according to The New York Times. Aside from attending the White House Easter Egg Roll and the funeral of Pope Francis (the day before her birthday), she has largely stayed out of the public eye.

While some interpret her distance as a sign of trouble in the Trump household, others suggest it may simply reflect her preference to live life outside the political spotlight.
