US singer and One Direction support act, 26, dies after scooter accident
Camryn Magness, a talented singer-songwriter who shared stages with One Direction, Cody Simpson, Greyson Chance, and Fifth Harmony, has tragically passed away at the age of 26.
The news was confirmed on December 5 after Camryn was fatally injured in an electric scooter accident, according to People and TMZ. She was riding as a passenger when the collision occurred in Miami Beach, with emergency crews taking all involved to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Camryn’s mother, Sarah, confirmed that there will be no public memorial.
A post on Camryn’s official Facebook page on December 9 paid tribute to her spirit:
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, joy, and bright spirit touched so many. Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness. In the quiet between waves, her memory will surface—bright, bold, unforgotten. Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl. You are deeply loved and forever cherished.”
Career That Shined Early
Camryn’s musical journey began at age 8, when she sent a demo to her future manager, Jeff Pringle. She recorded “Wait and See” with Blessed by a Broken Heart, featured in Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Her YouTube covers caught the attention of Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson, leading her to open for their Waiting 4U Tour in 2010 and perform again with Chance in 2012.
In 2012, she joined One Direction for seven shows on their Up All Night Tour, later rejoining them for the Take Me Home Tour in 2013. Reflecting on her experience, she told Teen Vogue:
“Going into the tour, I was an unknown artist. It’s a great feeling to be walking around and someone coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey, you did so well!’ It was really exciting for me when that happened for the first time.”
She described performing with the band as “amazing” in a CBS News interview, noting the fans and friendships she gained along the way.
A Gifted Performer
Camryn released singles including Now or Never, Lovesick, and Machines, and in 2016 she opened for Fifth Harmony on their 7/27 Tour. Her most recent project, the Love Maps EP, was released in 2021. Her obituary praised her artistry:

She is survived by her fiancé Christian, who she considered “the love of her life,” her parents Sarah and Gary, and her siblings Chelsea and Cable, along with their two cherished dogs, Brooklyn and Zeppelin.
