A historic pregnancy in the West Wing
With her second child due in May 2026, Leavitt is now the first pregnant White House press secretary to serve while expecting, according to
Fox News.
“Nearly all of my West Wing colleagues have babies and young children, so we support one another as we tackle raising our families while working for the greatest president ever,” she said on Dec. 26.
Christmas baby announcement with a political twist
Leavitt shared the news in a festive Instagram post, posing in a white sweater dress next to a Christmas tree, her hand resting on her growing belly. Her husband held Niko in another photo as the family smiled for the camera.
Family games
“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for—a baby girl coming in May 2026,” she wrote. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”
But the post didn’t stop there. Leavitt added:
“I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support, and for fostering a pro-family environment in the White House. 2026 is going to be a great year, and I am so excited to be a girl mom!”
Mixed reactions online
The mention of Trump in a personal family announcement drew immediate attention and divided reactions. While many congratulated the growing family, some questioned the political nod.
One commenter asked, “Is it Trump’s or your husband’s?” Others criticized the post’s tone, citing past controversies linked to the former president.
Some users also referenced Leavitt’s personal history, noting that her first child, Niko, was born before her marriage to Riccio in January 2025—contradicting the administration’s public preference for married families.
Family challenges beyond politics
The announcement comes amid other personal headlines. Leavitt’s nephew and godson’s mother, Bruna Caroline Ferreira, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November, with deportation proceedings ongoing. The White House has not commented publicly.
As 2026 approaches, Leavitt continues to balance her historic role with expanding her family. And while the praise for Trump has sparked debate, her holiday announcement will be remembered for more than just baby news.
