Trump Blows Up Democrat Resistance To ICE With Brilliant Move
The Trump administration has adopted a novel legal strategy that effectively circumvents the so-called “sanctuary city” policies, which prohibit local police departments from aiding federal immigration enforcement.
In sanctuary jurisdictions, police agencies are restricted from complying with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers for undocumented migrants apprehended by local authorities. Nevertheless, as journalist Marc Thiessen highlighted during a segment on Fox News this past Tuesday, the Trump administration is now prosecuting migrants who have unlawfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border multiple times with felony charges, which local jurisdictions are unable to overlook.
“For two elections now, Donald Trump has triumphed over the Democrats, driven by the issue of illegal immigration, and they still seem unable to grasp the situation,” Thiessen, a columnist for the Washington Post and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, remarked to anchor Shannon Bream. “We are witnessing individuals literally setting cars on fire and hurling rocks at ICE agents, while the Democrats are aligning themselves with the protesters instead of supporting the administration’s efforts to restore law and order.”
Thiessen further elaborated, “What has incited the left and is fueling this unrest is the fact that the Trump administration has discovered a method to navigate around sanctuary city regulations. Local officials may decline to comply with an ICE detainer, but they cannot refuse to acknowledge a federal felony warrant.”
He stated, “The Trump administration has initiated a program known as ‘Operation Guardian Angel,’ which involves charging illegal migrants who reenter the country with felony illegal reentry. Subsequently, they present local jurisdictions with federal felony warrants that must be executed. As a result, they have transferred hundreds of illegal migrants to ICE, provoking significant backlash as they have effectively undermined the sanctuary city policies.
“In addition, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who previously served as the state attorney general, posits that substantial financial resources are fueling the riots, and he declared on Wednesday his intention to investigate this issue.
Hawley, who chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, has sought internal communications and financial documents from the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). This request is part of an inquiry into claims that the organization is playing a role in the ongoing disturbances in California, as reported by The Hill.
“Recent credible reports indicate that your organization has been providing logistical assistance and financial support to individuals involved in these disruptive activities,” Hawley articulated in a letter addressed to the organization.
“To be unequivocal: financing civil unrest does not constitute protected speech. It amounts to aiding and abetting criminal behavior. Therefore, you are required to immediately cease and desist from any further participation in the organization, funding, or promotion of these illegal activities,” Hawley’s correspondence further stated. “They have obstructed federal law enforcement, jeopardized public safety, and disrupted the rule of law. This lawlessness is intolerable. It must come to an end.”
“Who is financing the LA riots? This violence is not spontaneous,” Hawley also stated on the X platform.
President Trump dispatched thousands of National Guard troops, along with hundreds of Marines, to manage the unrest in Los Angeles. The Republican leader asserted that this action was crucial for restoring law and order, pointing to what he characterized as the inadequacy of Democratic leadership in the city.
“If our troops had not entered Los Angeles, it would be in flames right now, just as much of their housing has been destroyed by fire,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on June 11, alluding to the recent catastrophic wildfires.
“The wonderful people of Los Angeles are extremely fortunate that I made the choice to intervene and provide assistance!!!” he remarked.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, condemned Trump for heightening tensions and opposed the deployment of federal forces. They claimed that local and state officials were capable of handling the situation without federal assistance.
