GOP Lawmaker Urges Bondi To Probe Socialist NYC Mayoral Candidate

On Thursday, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) officially urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to commence denaturalization proceedings against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, claiming that he provided false information during his citizenship application.

Mamdani attracted national attention following his unexpected triumph over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic mayoral nomination. His victory, driven by a platform of progressive policies, has caused significant upheaval within the political establishment.

“As reported publicly, including in a June 21, 2025 article from the New York Post, Mr. Mamdani openly expressed solidarity with individuals convicted of terrorism-related crimes before he became a U.S. citizen,” he stated, highlighting Mamdani’s previous rap lyrics that supported Palestine.

“The naturalization process relies on the honest disclosure of any connections to, or support for, organizations that pose a threat to U.S. national security,” he continued. “Should Mr. Mamdani have hidden pertinent affiliations, such concealment could represent a material misrepresentation that justifies denaturalization under federal law.”

Earlier this week, Christopher Flanagan, a Democratic state representative from Massachusetts, was apprehended by federal authorities and charged with embezzling tens of thousands of dollars to cover personal and political expenses, which included payments for psychic services.

Flanagan, 37, from Dennis, faces five counts of wire fraud and one count of falsifying records. He entered a not guilty plea to all charges in federal court in Boston on Friday afternoon and was subsequently released, as reported by CBS News.

In addition to his role as a state legislator, Flanagan held the position of executive director of the Cape Cod Home Builders Association (HBA). According to the U.S. Attorney, this role compensated him up to $81,600 last year, in addition to his state salary of $100,945.

Despite holding two positions, U.S. Attorney Leah Foley remarked that Flanagan was experiencing significant personal financial challenges, including substantial credit card debt, overdue mortgage payments, and considerable bank overdraft fees.

As per the legal documents, he is accused of misappropriating $36,000 from the HBA through five separate wire transfers conducted between November 2021 and January 2023.

“The charges brought today against Massachusetts State Representative Christopher Flanagan expose a shocking violation of public trust. The indictment alleges that Mr. Flanagan deceived the very organization he was meant to support – purportedly diverting tens of thousands of dollars into his own accounts to settle personal debts, purchase luxury goods, and fund his political campaign,” Foley stated in a press release available on the Department of Justice’s website.

“He is accused of embezzling funds and then taking extreme measures to conceal his actions, even going as far as creating false identities to mislead those who questioned his behavior. This alleged scheme was meticulously planned at every level. No individual should gain power through deceit, and the citizens of Massachusetts deserve far better,” she added.

Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division, commented: “The arrest of Massachusetts State Representative Christopher Flanagan today illustrates that postal inspectors will not allow elected officials to engage in fraud and operate under different standards. Flanagan’s blatant betrayal of his trusted positions and his reprehensible actions of enriching himself for personal or political gain are intolerable.

The residents of Massachusetts are entitled to improved conditions. I would like to express my gratitude to the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their commitment to facilitating this arrest. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service will persist in its efforts to serve the community and will take measures against individuals involved in such reprehensible conduct,” Larco-Ward added.
