People outraged after White House shares bold four-word statement about Donald Trump with bizarre photo

On February 19, 78-year-old Donald Trump utilized his own social media platform, Truth Social, to declare:

“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!”

This statement came in response to the Trump administration’s decision to suspend the contentious New York City congestion pricing initiative, which aimed to impose charges on drivers entering specific areas of the city.

The White House contended that the federal government holds authority over the roadways leading to New York and that the suggested toll would disproportionately affect working-class residents in the area, as reported by the BBC.

The official White House X account reposted Trump’s declaration, accompanied by an illustrated image reminiscent of a TIME Magazine cover.

The illustration portrayed Trump adorned with a crown, featuring the phrase “LONG LIVE THE KING” prominently in the lower left corner.

Critics swiftly took to X to express their views. One user posed the question: “Isn’t the whole point of America even existing to not have a monarch?”

Another user commented, “I thought we lived in a Democracy, not a Monarchy.”

A third remark referenced the American Revolution, asserting, “We literally fought a revolution to NOT have a king.”

Illinois’ Democratic Governor JB Pritzker also contributed, stating, “As Governor of Illinois, my oath is to the Constitution of our state and our nation. We don’t have kings in America, and I won’t bend the knee to one.”

In spite of the criticism, numerous Trump supporters conveyed their excitement regarding the post.

One commenter noted, “He looks good in a crown, definitely should get one,” while another remarked,

“Looks like someone’s feeling royal today! The crown emoji is practically mandatory right now.”

A third supporter proudly proclaimed, “I VOTED FOR THIS!”

Trump’s statement also addressed the toll program’s effect on drivers, stating, “Commuters using the highway system to enter New York City have already financed the construction and improvement of these highways through the payment of gas

The toll program eliminates any free highway options for drivers, instead extracting more funds from working individuals to finance a transit system rather than highways. This approach is both regressive and unjust.

In response, New York Governor Kathy Hochul categorically dismissed the notion, asserting, “We haven’t been under the rule of a King for over 250 years, and we certainly will not begin to do so now.

New Yorkers are prepared to resist. We do not yield, not now, not ever.”

New York officials have committed to persistently supporting the proposed $9 toll, which would be applicable to all vehicles entering Manhattan from 60th Street to the Financial District.

The toll is set to be enforced from 5 am to 9 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 9 pm on weekends.

Transportation officials contend that the program would not only enhance traffic flow but also allow first responders to access emergencies more effectively.

The revenue generated from the tolls would be allocated to rejuvenate the city’s subway system.
