Hero dad left heartbreaking goodbye voicemails to his kids before tragically dying in Texas floods
The catastrophic floods in Texas during the Fourth of July weekend resulted in the loss of 109 lives, with over 117 individuals still unaccounted for after the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in merely 45 minutes. Kerr County experienced some of the most severe impacts, with entire regions inundated and communities devastated.
Among the most poignant accounts is that of siblings who received farewell voicemails from their father, 61-year-old Jeff Ramsey, prior to him and his wife Tanya being swept away at the HTR RV Park in Kerrville.
Jeff, his spouse, and their dog were residing in their Airstream trailer when the floodwaters struck. Aware that hope was dwindling, Jeff and Tanya reached out to their family members. Tanya spoke with her mother, while Jeff left voicemails for his children.
Jake Ramsey, Jeff’s son, recounted, “He called me once he realized there was no hope. It was brief. He said, ‘Buddy. I love you so much. It doesn’t look like we are going to make it. Tell Rachey I love her.’” The sound of rushing water was distinctly audible in the background.
In the face of impending death, Jeff dedicated his final moments to assist others. He contacted his wife’s brother, who was located 150 yards upstream, alerting him in time to evacuate. That cabin was subsequently discovered to be destroyed.
“He saved their lives,” Jake reflected, honoring his father’s selflessness.
Tanya’s body has since been recovered, but Jeff is still officially missing. The family, however, holds the belief that he did not survive.
This heartbreaking narrative is one of many that are surfacing as Texas confronts one of its most lethal natural disasters in recent history.
