Miley Cyrus Says NSFW Gift For Liam Got Her Fired From ‘Hotel Transylvania’ And Replaced By Selena Gomez
The singer and former Disney Channel star, who became a household name as Hannah Montana, is no stranger to making headlines. She’s had more than a few eyebrow-raising moments throughout her career.
Now, at 32 and fresh off the release of her new album Something Beautiful, Cyrus is revisiting a wild story from her younger years. She’s talking about a gift she gave to her then-boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, which led to her being fired from the animated movie Hotel Transylvania.
While chatting with Monica Lewinsky on the June 10 episode of her podcast Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky, Miley reflected on several moments from her teenage years including the Hotel Transylvania drama.
“I, as a joke, got my boyfriend a penis cake for his birthday and I got fired.” she said, recalling how the whole thing spiraled.
“I was the lead actress in Hotel Transylvania and they fired me and replaced me because I made an inappropriate adult joke. But I was 18.”
What caused all the commotion was a photo of Miley with a cake shaped like a certain body part. She had made it for Hemsworth’s birthday in January 2012, and in the picture, she was holding it and playfully sticking out her tongue.
TMZ got hold of the images and posted them, describing the treat as a “massive phallic confection.”
“What felt ridiculous to me about getting fired over a penis cake was that they sell penis cakes for all bachelorettes … in Nashville, Tennessee, you can get penis cakes.” she explained, shaking her head at how it unfolded.
“It’s not that big of a deal. I thought this was a very simple, not vulgar joke … this is silly. You can do this for all bachelorette parties; they make necklaces and cups and straws and all kinds of stuff. It felt ridiculous.”
She went on to share that the photo of her with the cake wasn’t something she intended to share publicly.
It ended up out there after someone stole her backpack and with it, her camera during a private party.
“It was nothing I posted.” she said. “I was at a private event at a private party and I got robbed. It’s not cool.”
