Just a few years ago, Isabella was fighting for her life after doctors discovered a malignant brain tumor, a rare type of cancer accounting for only about 1.4% of all new cancer cases in the U.S.<\/p>\n

The latest family photos arrived as Michael celebrated his twin daughters\u2019 birthday on October 28. The Good Morning America<\/em> co-anchor marked Isabella and Sophia\u2019s special day with a collection of pictures, mixing nostalgic childhood memories with more recent snapshots.<\/p>\n

But for those who have followed Isabella\u2019s journey, seeing her celebrate another birthday carries a significance that goes far beyond a family photo.<\/p>\n

The terrifying diagnosis that changed everything<\/h2>\n

Isabella was just 18 and beginning her freshman year at the University of Southern California when she started experiencing symptoms that she initially struggled to explain.<\/p>\n

In September 2023, she noticed that she couldn\u2019t walk in a straight line. Instead, she found herself moving in a zigzag pattern and began suffering from severe headaches and nausea. Then, one day, she says she started throwing up blood.<\/p>\n

She initially thought it might be vertigo. Then, one day, her symptoms took a frightening turn when she began vomiting blood.<\/p>\n

Her twin sister Sophia urged her to seek medical attention.<\/p>\n

Why the prognosis wasn\u2019t good<\/h2>\n

An MRI revealed a devastating discovery: Isabella had medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor that develops in the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for movement and coordination.<\/p>\n

Doctors found a tumor measuring around four centimeters and moved quickly to operate.<\/p>\n

Dr. Michelle Israel, an internal medicine specialist who treated Isabella, explained just how critical her condition had become.<\/p>\n

\u201dShe was actually in danger of having a seizure, having a stroke, and potentially dying,\u201d Israel told ABC<\/a>.<\/p>\n
